Even with 20 years of DJing experience, Mr. Choc is still one of the most humble DJ’s in the industry. Having established himself as one of the top four radio mixers in the nation, Choc has come quite a way from his days on the radio in Bakersfield, alongside the now world famous DJ C-Minus.

When Choc’s not sleeping, he’s without a doubt DJing, either in the studio, on stage, on the radio, or in a classroom. Mr. Choc has worked with some of the biggest and hottest artists, including Funkmaster Flex, Talib Kweli, Mos Def, Kanye West, LL Cool J, Oukast, Nas, KRS-1, Aaliyah, 112, Tribe Called Quest, and Common. Though Choc can rock any club, he is one of the most sought after DJs for VIP parties like Alicia Keys’ Album Release Party, Jamie Foxx’s Super Bowl Party, and Ja Rule’s Murder Inc. Album Release Party at the Playboy Mansion, to name a few. Choc even toured with 50 Cent while promoting his first album.

Though Choc has traveled all over the world – Brazil, Canada, Europe, and Australia to name a few highlights – he feels most at home teaching his craft to up and coming DJs. “Sometimes it feels like I’m opening up my book of secrets, and letting people into my world,” says Choc when describing what it’s like being one of the Director at the Los Angeles Scratch DJ Academy (www.scratch.com). Thomas’s bio: Originally from Cambridge, Bullock got his start in the late 80s in the U.K. with the Tonka crew alongside DJ Harvey. In 1991 he moved to San Francisco and joined the Wicked crew alongside Markie, Jeno, and DJ Garth. Wicked were critical in creating and promoting the West Coast psychedelic house sound. Bullock was known for his enthusiastic and unpredictable late night sets. At this time Thomas produced downtempo music as Mammal. He also made a psychedelic album under the name Supergroup with Charles Uzzell Edwards.

In 1996 Thomas moved to NYC and started A.R.E. Weapons, which pioneered the electroclash, noise rock sound (made somewhat famous in popular press due to the involvement of Paul, Chloe Sevigny’s brother). He left the group a few years later to start his current projects: the Rub N Tug parties and productions, the infamous balearic rock band with Harvey called Map of Africa, a barnyard punk project called Bobbie Marie, and a packed schedule of Dj’ing worldwide. Thomas’s most recent project includes remixes for the cult group A Mountain of One and the rumored forthcoming followup album, to Map of Africa’s debut.

Rub’n'Tug bio: Eric D and Thomas met at a party (where else?) in LA, through a mutual friend working at a clothing and disco unit called Sarcastic. Random chance and coincidence soon found the two of them together on the other side of the continent, pumping beats into the heart of New York City’s underground scene. Despite NYC commercialism staring them in the eyes and singing it sweet siren song, Eric and Thomas, with good mates and cheap drinks in hand, kept their feet firmly planted in the fertile underground and sauntered on with a laugh. A friend’s acquisition of a Chinese Rub N Tug massage-palace-cum-loft-space sparked a series of raucous parties where rooms were torn down, both literally and figuratively, as 300-400 people shuffled to their wild disco mashups. It seems only natural that out of the seedy, risqué, hell-bent indulgence, Rub N Tug was born. Next up were their lock-ins on the rammed disco floors of Passerby, now notoriously and fondly recalled as Campfire, where house music poured out of sweaty speakers ’til the after-after-hours. “We’re into having a party. Music and having a drink and a good time. Our friends and family in New York all kind of gathered about us when we started to play jams. The first Rub N Tug night was a loft jam at the As Four Siver Cage – a crazy night with 40 cases of champagne on the fire escape, fights broke out while we scratched records. At one point T played the keyboard with his bare ass. You know that kind of party. That’s how it started; may it continue as it began.” – Rub N Tug Shortly after their first mix CD for aNYthing clothing company, came a boisterous compilation from Eskimo called Campfire, a stylish capturing of their debauched nights/mornings at Passerby, and Rub N Tug found they’d quickly transformed from NYC scene-sters to globetrotting party starters. Remixes flowed out like tequila shots, sharp and burning, and they were soon queuing everyone from !!! to Coldplay to Beastie Boys to Roxy Music to Zero 7.

Map of Africa bio: “Map Of Africa” is a band featuring the combined forces of legendary DJ/ musician Harvey and all around production genius Thom Bullock. Having grown up together in the wilds of Fen-land East Anglia they have found their way into a studio built in the old barn of a commune compound deep in the woods and rivers of Northern New York State. From here they have single-handedly written and recorded their first album of songs that, though they are clearly the work of individual vision, can at times remind you of the bands Can and Hawkwind or for that matter Godley and Creme. Harvey is known for his priceless Black Cock releases and having ushered in the current wave of re-edit hysteria as well as his unique remix and production style that along with his international DJ performances has kept him in a position of cult status amongst disco and dance connoisseurs for the past 2 decades. Bullock is most easily recognized for his role in his DJ partnership Rub n Tug but may also be remembered as the man behind the music of an earlier NY super nova; A.R.E. Weapons. Now as well as his work with Harvey he is recording an LP under the handle of Bobbie Marie and producing several other groups all for the label “Whatever We Want Records”.
